Amazon Shorts

Amazon Shorts features previously unpublished short-form literature for sale exclusively at Amazon.com. Fiction and nonfiction pieces on a wide variety of topics are available in a digital format only for just $0.49. This is a great way for authors to maintain a more direct and frequent communication with their readers as well as promote their backlist.

I have no idea whether authors get any of that whopping $0.49. However, if you've got short stories sitting around waiting for a publisher, this could be a fantastic way to build up name recognition and start a core fan base. You get the same benefits as everything else published on Amazon - reviews, Amazon Associates privileges, and full listing on what is arguably the most popular literary search engine in the world. I don't think it'll make you money, but it could help you gain valuable mindshare.

Check out the FAQ.

I think someone figured out that it would take 2,000 downloads to make what a story would at a pro paying market. Still it's positive exposure.

Amazon's FAQ doesn't say anything about payment, so I'm surprised to hear they're sharing any of the fifty cents they charge per download.

Honestly, there are so few pro markets left, I think this would be a great opportunity for exposure. If you get good reviews and plenty of downloads, it'll look more impressive on a CV than being published in a few small magazines which only pay in copies.
